2025 GMC Sierra HD

Whether you need a heavy-duty truck for hauling equipment to the job sites or you need something durable that can trailer your boat, the 2025 GMC Sierra HD will get the job done. Read on to learn about the most impressive aspects of this year’s Sierra HD.

Engine Power and Towing

The new Sierra HD offers several engine options for drivers with various power needs. Its standard engine is a 6.6L V8 with an output of 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque. The base model also has the option for a 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine that delivers 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque. Both motors are paired with Allison 10-speed automatic transmissions.

The 2500 Crew Cab has a maximum towing capability of 21,870 lbs, but depending on the cab configuration, engine, and additional packages, the Sierra HD can tow up to 36,000 lbs.

Special Heating and Cooling

An external engine oil cooler comes standard on all Sierra HD trim levels. Its main function is extending oil life when operating under heavy loads. Drivers can also add the engine block heater, which helps improve cold starts by warming the engine and engine block fluids.

Similar to the external engine oil cooler, the Sierra HD also comes equipped with an external auxiliary transmission oil cooler, which helps boost transmission performance when trailering and hauling heavy loads.

Braking

Antilock disc brakes are standard on the 2025 Sierra HD. In addition to preventing general wheel lockup, the Sierra HD’s braking system ensures drivers maintain steering control during heavy braking in rain and snow. The Duralife brake rotors have enhanced longevity over typical brake rotors due to their Ferritic Nitro-Carburizing, a special process that reduces corrosion.

Available MultiPro Tailgate

The MultiPro Tailgate comes standard on the Sierra HD SLT and is an available option on the Pro trim level. Altogether, the MultiPro Tailgate offers six functions, including a load stop that prevents items from sliding out of the bed and a folding inner gate that simplifies loading and unloading items. The inner gate, which can hold up to 375 lbs, also functions as a work surface.

Safety and Driver Assistance

The Sierra HD’s safety and driver assistance features allow drivers to focus more on getting work done instead of avoiding accidents and navigating tight city streets. Automatic Emergency Braking detects imminent collisions and applies the brakes to reduce and ideally prevent an impact, while Lane Departure Warning provides an audible alert to notify drivers if they begin veering into neighboring traffic.

Additional safety and driver assistance features include:

  • Forward Collision Alert
  • Following Distance Indicator
  • Front Pedestrian Braking
  • IntelliBeam
  • Buckle to Drive
